Papuan Green Tree Python

Common Name: Jamomong

Scientific Name:  Chondropython viridis

Subfamily:  Pythoninae

Length: 1.6meters (5.3ft)

 

Description   The body is laterally flattened and the broad head set off by a relatively narrow neck. The basic color is leaf green with a yellow or white verbal stripe, broken at intervals.

Range  New Guinea and Solomon Islands. 

Habitat and Habits   A mainly nocturnal and strictly arboreal, rainforest inhabitant. When at rest, it drapes its body symmetrically over a branch.

Pros and Cons  This species bears a remarkable resemblance to the emerald tree boa, Corallus caninus, considering they are different subfamilies and live in widely separated continents.
