Water Monitor

Common Name:  Halu

Scientific Name:  Varanus salvator

 

Description  It is very colorful when young and grows rapidly when kept under suitable conditions.

Range   Southeast Asia, Philippine Islands

Housing   Monitors are extremely active lizards; you will need to provide adequate space, both for climbing and swimming, as well as a basking area. Its name suggests that it must have access to a reasonable area of water to feel completely at home.

Feeding   They often eat eggs and will readily accept them as part of their diet in captive surroundings. Mature specimens can also be given raw meat.

Sex Difference   Males have broader heads than females.
