Tokay Gecko

Scientific Name: Gekko gecko

Common Name:  Toko, Tiki

Subfamily: Gekkoninae

Length:  35cm (13.7in)

 

Description  One of the largest gecko species, the tokay is named after its loud, two-syllable call. Possesses all typical gecko characteristics. These geckos are attractively colored but they can be aggressive. Large individuals have a powerful bite. They are quite able to take adult crickets, and some will even consume small mice if given an opportunity.

Distribution  South-east Asia, Philippines

Diet  A variety of larger insects and even small mice. Will drink from small water containers or take droplets from leaves.

Sex Differences   Males have pre-anal spores

Breeding   The female lays a pair of eggs attached to the surface that may take three to six months to hatch.
